Engaging Young Readers & building summer REading excitement.
This Summer the Auburn Hills Public Library wanted to build their Summer Reading program around a key hook that would kids would love. Their team proposed the quote "Ha ha made you read!"
Connected to the the quote would be a mischievous alien mascot character. I went with a bold colorful style that would match the energy of the fun joke and enhance the promise of all the fun that Summer Reading at the library can be.
to help boost participation, I aimed to CREATe Art that kids would want to have.
I went to work designing the alien mascot taking inspiration from cartoons and retro futurism. As part of my usual project process, I created three sketches to give the library options to decide between.
Once the key graphic was created, I expanded the design into a fun t-shirt, a bookmark readers would want to keep, reworked the library's logo to match the Summer Reading style, and put together a kit of files for the youth department to use when creating in-house marketing materials for Summer.
